In 1947, almost two years after Indonesian independence was proclaimed, SMP Negeri 1 Kendari was established. Within the context of the Unitary State of Indonesia (NKRI), this school has undoubtedly colored the history of the country and contributed significantly to the development of quality human resources for the country. In SMP Negeri 1 Kendari, classes are held from Monday to Friday. Classes start at 7:50 a.m. and last until 2:40 p.m. Students at this school take only four (4) subjects per day, with each session lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours. This school, however, does not solely focus on academics because, every Friday, students are given the opportunity to further develop their abilities and talents through the Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5). In addition, every day, the students have three breaks, which help them rest from their lessons and regain their energy. The first break is from 9:50 AM - 10:20 AM; the second is from 11:40 AM - 12:10 PM; and the third is from 12:10 - 12:40 PM, which also serves as their midday prayer.
Every Monday, there is a flag-raising ceremony that lasts for at least one (1) hour. On Tuesdays, the male teachers do the exercise dance in the oval. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, the female students and male students do the exercise dance in the oval, respectively. And on Fridays, the day is allotted for Projek Pancasila.
